While at the range a few weeks ago shooting my big guns, I decided to try the .17 out at longer ranges. I had left a 20oz soda bottle on the buroum at 337 yards. First shot was about one foot low, second shot split the distance in half, third shot made the soda bottle jump. I have the BSA sweet 17 scope on my NEF Sportster, and the point where the crosshairs go from a thick post to a fine hair is the spot to use at 337 yards. After I figured that out I was hitting the bottle every shot. I was surprised and so was the rest of the folks out there. Now I was shooting from a rest, but still I think that is pretty darn good for a little 17gr bullet. I was shooting Federal ammo with the Speer TNT bullet. At first the gun did not like that ammo, but after shooting for a while it seems to get better and now shoots Federal ammo as well as the Hornady stuff. I don't shoot for measurable groups much, I like to see things jump, explode, or fall dead. Since I like to shoot 4"clay targets or soda bottles it's either a hit or a miss.
