Keeping in mind one's intended purpose, and mine being hunting, it would be what I have now - a Taurus Raging Bull in .454 Casull. Granted I own several other handguns, but the .454 would be it. Why? Winchester offers, or at least they used to offer, ammo with reduced loads that kick like a .44 mag. And when you want full power loads, you can use 'em and feel confident.

Then to meet the ONE handgun rule....... any Wilson Combat Tactical .45.

oh............and about 25 mags!!! You can never have too many.

I have several handguns now. I do not have a Ruger Blackhawk 357/9 mm convertible. However if I could have only one handgun, that would have to be the one. It fires three of the most readily available cartridges there are. If you can't locate any of that ammo, you probably couldn't find any ammo period. It can fire 5 different calibers just by switching between two cylinders (357 mag, 38 special, 38 long colt, and 38 short colt in one cylinder and 9 mm in the other.)

I do have two Ruger convertibles now, a 22 lr/22 mag Single Six and a 10 mm/38-40 Blackhawk. And just today I put a 45 ACP/45 Colt Blackhawk on layaway.

A 6" 1911 chambered for 45 Super with a Ciener .22 kit. Second choice S&W M66 4" with a McGivern bead front sight and round butt. Glad I don't have to make this choice for real!

have watched/read this post for some times now-with interest, amusment, and have gained a lot of insight--but the question keeps poppin up-should the vehicle needed to carry this weapon be fourwheel drive, and if so 3/4 or 1 ton? :grin: :grin: :grin:

I would have to vote for my 686. load it from 110-200 grain slugs. It will take care of everything except the BIG game.

Only one or your first the answer is the same:
A magnum revolver.
The reasons are
1. versatility - load down or up for the expected purpose
2. avaiability of ammo - with MOST magnums there are multiple rounds that will chamber and fire.
3. dependability - you don't have to wait to fire 100 - 500 rounds to make them fully functional 100% of the time and the recoil or pressure of the ammo won't affect how the weapons cycles the next rounds.

My choice? .357 magnum Ruger - 6 inch - security six
Mine has had tens of thousands of rounds (not an exageration) through it in the last 30 years and still shoots better than new.

I hate to have to tell you boys this, but I am fortunate enough to own a Colt Python since 1976. It is the ultimate pistol. Light loads? one hole at any range you are good at, same for heavies. That ends this thread. None of you can match it. Sorry for you young guys who can't touch this ,and you older ones who should have saved up like I did and bought one. Why do you think the commies picked colt to buy and ruin anyway? ROB :twisted:

My choice is the Ruger Vaquero, blue with five and a half inch barrel, in .45 L.C. caliber. Ruger is a proven brand, and the 45 L.C. is a proven caliber. WOW :eek: what a team!

Rob, I'm almost inclined to go with you on this one. Believe me I do love my Python, but if I only could have one gun I have to go with something a little more powerful. Now the decision, the 6" Anaconda in .45, the M29 MG, or the Bisley in 41mag. Hmmmmmmmm....... :? . My lil pea brain can't take this pressure so I'm gonna cheat and keep em all.

I would agree with the author of this question. I recently purchased a 7/30 Waters barrel and 3X12 Burris scope to mount on it. I am certainly not an expert on pistols, but like Charlton Heston says "Out of my cold dead hands". I didn't know it was possible to get the accuracy that I am getting out of a centerfire pistol cartridge. (Or rifle cartridge)

You described my "South American" Blackhawk :grin:

A stainless 4-5/8" Ruger Blackhawk 357/38/9mm convertible with additional cylinders in; .38 Super (popular in Mexico), .380, 9mm Largo (matches my Destroyer carbine), and cylinder caliber inserts for .22 long rifle/shorts.

This pistol fits into my kit and is a remedy for those areas with common calibers not readily available.

I would have to give up my big bores based on the usefullness of this revolver.

Ruger GP100 (KPG141), Stainless Steel, 4", 357 Magnum. Lots of ammo choices from cheap 38 Special plinkers to 357 Magnum Hunting Loads. The GP100 is built like a tank and will last forever. Its big enough to take hunting (some states) and small enough to carry and makes a great car gun. The recoil is light even with 160 grain +P+ and the gun is a true pleasure to shoot. Not that I like Rugers or anything, after all, I only have 6 right now. :oops:
