Got an itch to buy a new .45 for informal pistol courses. Wife has a ruger p-90 which I like but curious about Taurus millenium .45  Also how does the p-97 compare with the p-90? Thanks

Skandiaman,
The Millenium is a good little gun for it's intended purpose of concealed carry. If you want to shoot some handgun courses of fire then you would be better served by the full size. Ruger makes good durable, reliable pistols as well. If memory serves, the P-90 is an alloy frame double stack and the P-97 is plastic. Both are DA/SA. My wife has a P-95 and loves it!

My father recently purchased a Mellinium in the 45acp. We ended up sending it in for repair twice. The first time it was because it refused to feed about every other round, the second time we picked it up from the gun shop after it came back and took it directly to the range after a quick inspection. Function was perfect the first 10 rounds but then the slide locked in the forward position and could not be pulled back, as luck would have it, it was after firing the last round in the magazine. After it came back from Taurus the second time we traded it for a Walther P99.  Yeah, Taurus is lifetime warranty but who wants to send it in everyother day to have it repaired ?? I do like Taurus handguns and have a M85 snubbie but the Mellinium in 45ACP I wouldnt recomend for defense, not after seeing the reliability problem first hand. OH yeah, and the trigger pull is one of the worst DOAs Ive ever had the displeasure of shooting. My M85 has a shorter pull the that on DA !!!!

Hello, do a net search, I've seen many reports of cracked frames.
Conversely Evan Marshall carries one in a ankle holster crack and all!

I also heard the same thing about the Taurus Millennium's.  I heard that they had cracking problems even in the 9 mm.  I have to agree with Henry Bowman's post that even though they are guaranteed who wants to send it back to the factory every few weeks or even months.  I picked up a Kel-Tec P11 in 9 mm.  Great carry gun but having some feed problems even with 200 plus rounds put through it.  Now the slide stop will not release unless you are a gorilla with a stalk of banannas.  Called Kel-Tec and they said to send it back and they will make good on it.  Shoulda bought that Kahr 9mm in compact version and just been done with it.  Oh well live and learn.  Mikey keeps telling me to send the Kel-Tec to him and he will get it working and send it back to me in a few YEARS!!!  Yeah Mikey, Right!!!!!!!!!!!  :-D

Ken,
I hear KT has really good coustomer service. Although I own 4 KTs (2 P-11s and 2 P-32s) I have no personal knowledge of this. You didn't say what kind of feed problems you were having with yours, but most feed problems can be traced to a bad magazine. I'd also check for proper lubrication and coil binding of the recoil spring. That other thing you are having problems with is a slide stop---it is purposely made small to avoid snagging. The best way to release the slide is to sling shot it into battery ala--Glock.
cknight98,
I understand the new KT .380 will be slightly larger and 1oz heavier than the .32. That's not a show stopper, but I plan to keep my .32s and buy at least one of the .380s. Handle both of them and decide which you prefer. In my opinion the KTs are hard to beat at twice the current price. My older P-11 has a wheelbarrow full of lead reloads fired thru it and still performs as well as it did 5 yrs ago. And let's not forget these things are AMERICAN made!!
God Bless America!

Savage:  I also heard that KT had a great service dept.  I will be sending it back as the mag does seem sloppy in the gun as well as the follower in the mag.  The recoil spring is a two part spring and that could also be the culprit.  The gun is a great CW but I want to be sure all the goodies are working the way they are supposed to be.  I hope I NEVER get into a situation of having to actually use it and then have it malfunction after the first round.  I don't think the fella on the other end is going to sit idle while I clear my jam!!!!  I still prefer the autos over the wheelguns for carry although I do go back and forth with them while carrying.  Maybe I should just ship the KT to Mikey and let him play with it until about mid September and it should be working fine by then.  If Mikey gets it then I get the brigade of single German girls in their bikini's to sit with me in the club house while Mikey sweats his butt off out on the range.  I suppose I would also have to supply all the ammo too!!!!  Mikey, what a guy!!!!!!!!!!!

Ken:  If I have to sacrifice myself to the Gods of the hot sun and the pistol range to iron out your Kel-Tec, then ya'll had best let that ENTIRE Brigade of bikini clad German girls sooth your fevered brow, pour you a whole buncha tall frosty ones, and coo all over ya for hours on end.  Just send me one to help reload the magazines.  Har!  This be Mikey.

You are such a guy!!!!  No one else that I know would perform such a sacrifice as you stated in your last post.  If the day actually came for the range shoot I bet the last thing you would do would be to say "Ken, har boy I got this coin in my hand.  Lets us flip and see who spends time in the sun and who gets the German dollies.  Well geeez wizz Ken looks like you lost the toss of the coin as you called tails".  Then the truth would finally be know.  That thar coin would have two heads!!!!  Nice going Mikey my man you are all heart.  I think you gots the noggin banged one to many times on the butt end of a C-123!!!!

Good choice, the P-32 is the one gun I allways have with me! I installed the pocket clip on mine and my wife's P-32. Mine has the left side clip and my wife's has the right. I carry mine on the weak side and pratice using the off hand. Reason being, if I am carrying a primary it will be on the strong side. My wife carries in right front pocket, the little guns just disappear! Our chief and I did some testing using a wet phone book. We tried the Hydra Shocks, Glassers,Silvertips and ball. The ball and the Silvertips were the only ones to penetrate more than 2". The Silvertips penetrated allmost as much as the ball with some expansion. The Glassers made a cavity about the size of a nickel and about 1/2" deep. The Hydra Shocks penetrated about an inch with the same size cavity. With that said, I carry Silvertips in mine. There may be better ammo out there, I am allways looking! Pratice with that little jewel and you'll be surprised at how well you can hit with it!

cknight98,
The ball and the Silver tips penetrated about 3" in the wet phone books. Based on my tests with other calibers and bullets that should be about minimal acceptable penetration for a defensive round.

skandiaman:

My story is the same as Chris' except I haven't gotten rid of mine YET. I have the .45 and it is a great little compact load of 10+1 .45 ACP, however, the trigger stinks (to me). I fired 100 rounds and sent it back to the factory. About once a magazine I could pull the trigger all the way back and it wouldn't fire. When I released the trigger-BANG. Taurus fixed that, but the day I got it back I took it and my S&W M19 to the range, and there was just no comparison. The wheelgun was a joy to shoot but the Taurus trigger was just too long. Wore me out after 100 rounds. I know I'll lose money on it, but it's gone as soon as I can get an ad in the paper. Too bad. It really feels good in your hand. Wheelguns rule!
