Never seen a turkey load for the 16 ga, but Federal makes a 2-3/4" Premium Magnum Copper Plated 1-1/4 oz load with 3-1/4 Dram eq. powder. The loading # is P165 6 for the #6 shot, the #4 shot is P165 4. These are only sold in boxes of 25, but are much cheaper per shell than the boxes of 10 like most turkey loads. This load has more powder and the same ammount of shot as the 3" 20 ga turkey load, and I can attest to the fact that they work well.

My late father used the #6 shot for his first and only turkey before he was too sick. I told him that he could use my 12 ga, but he insisted on using his (now mine) Browning "Sweet Sixteen".

Do you think the #6 or #4s would be better?  I suppose they would be good for small game too.

I am also a fan of the 16 gauge and I vote for #6's. They throw a denser pattern and I do not believe #4's are needed anyway....<><.... :)

For that load #6 because you have more shot and at 30 yards or under, the turkey will never know the difference. ;D We always use #6's in the 20 ga too.

You will have to shoot them to know for sure how they do in your gun though. That load will be the best suited turkey load for the 16 ga, unless someone else has came out with something else in the last couple years.

Another vote for the #6 shot.  I tested both the #4's and #6's and out of my gun, the #6 held a much better pattern.  I shot 3 turkeys in 3 years, from 9 to 34 yards and none ever knew what hit them

Swampman,
The best ammunition is by far is Nitro Company Ammunition.I have a 16 ga made up with a ventrib, screw in choke tube, ported,I even have in chambered for a 3 inch mag 16 ga(NU-LINE GUNS).These shoot really good out of my gun. They are  2.75'' with 1 7/16 oz. of #4,5,7 HEVI SHOT at 1220 fps. These loads are buffered so your barrel bore isnt scored by the hevi shot. This is custum ammo and isnt cheap but its worth every penny.I have a 12 ga shooting a load similar but in 3.50'' and it will put in upwards of 250 pellets in a 10'' circle at 40 yards. The 16 is putting 150 pellets and up.This is fantastic for a 16 ga.If you want the best this is it.Look them up on the web and keep in mind he can make your load anyway you want like #4,5s,or 6s.Hope this helps.
                                                                                                                                 WOODCHOPPER
