First Savage ML2 Deer
« on: November 19, 2006, 11:21:28 PM »
I have a Savage laminated stainless ml2, topped with a Burris 3-9 40mm, shooting 43 grains of SR4759, and a 250g .452 XTP with a Harvester sabot.

I shot him at 30 yards, and he was down right there.

The entrance wound was a severe 2.5 inch hole in the hide, and the bullet never made it out. The bullet fragmented and took out lots of bone, both lungs, and more bone on the other side, finally resting on the far side under the hide.

WOW.

Is this typical of the XTP's? I'm impressed. I figured it would have passed through at this close a range.

Good shooting! Dont you love that Savage?
Your bullet performance is typical, for the 250 XTP. I hit a deer with one, and got a four inch entrance wound, destruction of both lungs, and no exit. I was a bit dismayed, as I like to tan the hides, but it was one dead deer.
Aim small don't miss.
