Whats the hottest thing now?
« on: December 11, 2006, 10:59:43 AM »
Whats the hottest surplus buy right now?

I been away from this for a while but it seems there's nothing new or expected new to arrive here for a while on the horizon.  It seems to be the samey same from last year??

The buzz word now seems to be all about the mosins while there still affodable and available I guess.
There is a few Finnish M39's around but there not cheap but there much less in price than i expected them to be.
The swiss k31 prices went kind of high then they seem to level off too now.
I know there still running with yugo sks's which i'm kind of all yugo'ed out.

I was hoping to see a Korean or east german sks being imported by now but nothing yet.  I also heard a rumor about some russian svt-40's ready to be imported but i think they have been banned but i'm not sure.
South Korea had some M1 carbines and M1 Garands ready to ship here too a while back maybe CMP will get them since they were lend lease guns.

Overall the future of something new or different arriving here looks grim i guess.  It seems to be a test in prices on whats available to us too first they are affordable then as the sales pickup and the word is passed on the prices seem to rise all of a sudden.  Then when the sales slow down the prices do come down a bit and level off.  I think thats what i'm seeing anyway. If its not affordable I don't purchase it either.

I'm not sure there is a hot buy right now.  Seems like the same stuff that's been here for a while.  Nothing new that I am aware of.

Mosin Nagents are getting popular . They're also coming with bayos , slings and ammo pouches for a great price.

I have not seen anything new in a couple of years now except those over priced Martini-Henrys.
I think the time is about past for cheap surplus ! I think I am about to start collecting old rimfires again. I just Bought a 1973 Ford Maverick Grabber (289 v8) and my brother bought a 1965 Mustang. That may be about to eat up a lot of spare time restoring them. My surplus money may go there for a while unless I run across something interesting in the pawn shop or something.

That brings back old memories.   ;D  I haven't heard of one of those in forever let alone seen one anywhere.  I had a relative that had one many, many years ago.

I too have one of the 73 Mavericks !
Not restored or anything yet !
Mine has the 289 V8 but it doesn't have the right
hood on it to be a Grabber. Someone tried to steal it
and messed up the ignition switch and now I can't get it out of gear.
(can't turn the key). I have a 302 V8 in the shop that I am slowly putting
together to go into it. Lots of power for a small car  ;D
Unfortunately Power = crappy gas economy. I am still gonna drive it though !
PM me and we can swap ideas and resourses for parts . I am starting to restore old cars for x-tra money.
Working on a 74 Duster (mine !) - 65 Rambler - 67 F100 short bed - 67 Chevy short-bed (just sand blasting it) -
a bonafide 64 mustang (rotted out floor pan) and 2 VW beetles !
I about can't afford to shoot much any more with ammo prices sky-rocketing the way they are
so I am having to find other hobbies  8)

I just picked up a 78 3/4 ton truck and a 70 Cub tractor and i want a backhoe next then a want to collect and restore farmall tractors the letter series like "A", "H" & "M"'s.  With the prices going higher on some wanted surplups and the cost of ammo I switched to another hobbie too.

Guys - I think the hottest guns being marketted now are the SKSs, the K31s and the Mitchell's Mausers.  I don't think the market has dried up on the other stuff like the Swedes, the Turks and the K98s, I just think the prices are going up - possibly in light of the recent political (ugh) victories of the anti-gun crowd.  Somehow I think delaers are seeing the 'scare factor' coming into play and mght be holding out a bit until they can price mil-surps up a bit.  Sad, but that's what I think (I sure hope I'm wrong).  Mikey.

There are still some decent deals on Milsurp weapons, But I either have had or still have all of them I have wanted of what is available... I would love to see something NEW !!! (Well, Surplus NEW that is !) For many of the available rifles, there has been a .22 cal training rifle ? I wonder where the ones of these are that are not shot out? Be nice to see some of them come in!
I believe Russia will one day sell off more of the weapons they have in storage, That would be a wonderfull thing ! Imagine a boatload of Smith & Wesson Model 3's ! Or those 10's of thousands of Peabody's
or all those Arisaka's (type 99 and 38's) ... I have heard that they are there, Hey Ivan ! Send them over here !

As for Mitchell .... Might as well buy a modern rifle If I am going to spend that much money.

One of my local dealers has been super sizing the prices on the swede mausers,  yugo mausers,  turk mausers, 7mm spanish mausers and the chinese norinco sks's.  I'm also seeing out of wack prices on the astra pistols too.  It pays to shop around for sure.  Timing is the key to catch them when they have something priced affordable.  I seen him oneday with a 1911a1 norinco used in exc. condition for $300 which was a hell of a buy too.  We need to educate ourselves on the current prices too so we know whats a good buy or a rip off too.  Even the gun shows are expensive lately too more so than ever.  I never got or seen a deal on ammo at a gun show.  To find a deal at a gun show you have to be there on the very first day when the door opens and move and look quickly.  I found all my gun show good deals that way in the past.(swede mausers/norinco sks's)

Mikey/guys;  The only thing thats holding down the prices on the other sks's somewhat is the present flood of affordable yugo sks's.  Once the yugo's dryup  there's going to be a big increase in sks prices. Do you think a future sks price could hit $1,000 or close?  Just look at the russian svt-40's and the FN49's and the egyptian hakim is hitting $500 now too.  I say remorgage the farm and buy what you want now......think about it whats going to happen to the ak prices too.  My 1908 brazilian mauser went up overnite from 150 to 500.

Whats a fair price on sks's???

Chinese norinco in excellent condition------- these were around $250 a few years ago
Chinese norinco in very good condition------------ even these were around 200 to 225

Russian sks exc. condition----------------------- I'm not sure?

Romanian sks in vg to g condition------------ are these pushing between $250 to $300+ now? How rare?

Albanian sks in vg to g condition-------------  are these pushing between $375 to $475 now?  How rare?

yugo m59/66 in vg condition-------------------  ?

yugo m59 in vg condition---------------------  ?

So whats the overall average going rate on all the sks's?   I really don't have an idea how much there worth right now i see a big difference in prices on the auction sites.

I looked at a Chinese norinco sks in my local gunshop yesterday, he is asking $225.00 for it.
