8mm Siamese Mousers

I'm looking to have a custom Mouser made from an 8mm Siamese Mouser. Many years ago I understand it was common to cunvert one of these to 45/70. I would be intrested in any information you guys might have on this topic.
I don't have the gun to start with so any help tracking one down would be greatly apreciated.

Hello there. I believe the Mauser model 1903 Siamese type 45 is the one you seek. It is 8mm * 50R or thereabouts. Seen one up here in Canada for less than $200 Canadian. Good luck. Regards

The November/December 1970 edition of Rifle magazine had an article on the Saimese Mauser conversion titled ".45-70 Bolt Gun Rivals The .458!"  I bought a copy of the article for $5 a month or so ago.  Give them a call and you should have it in hand in a few days.  I have the rifle locked away awaiting the ambition and time to forge ahead.

Poolman: I had a siamese mauser converted to 45-70 probably 25 yrs ago.  The company (now defunct) was Federal Firearms.  I'm pretty sure that ER Shaw does these conversions now. These rifles can be converted to many large rimmed cartridges such as 45-70, 303, 348, etc., but why would you bother with anything except 45-70!  Other that rebarreling, the bolt face has to be worked on and I think magazine rails need a little work to make it feed properly.  I'd check with ER Shaw.  These things are strong enough that you can make 45-70 loads that will bring tears to your eyes.

I read it for decades and remember the era you speak of. This is where the mil. surplus advertisers advertise. Siam 98's were common and "no ffl" back then because ammo was not considered available. BUT RCBS came out with form dies to make cases, so no more. Could you be happy with an 8mm on the .45/70 case (I think). Ask at RCBS or ch4d.com or Redding... Case form dies.
I think Shaw was a supplier of barrels. I had mine installed by a local 'smith. I shot a 4-5 inch group with 300 grain Hornady's at 100 yd off bench, IRON SITES, which is pretty good for me. I am happy. (He used Wm's "Guide sites"...) ONCE I loaded some 500 grain lead bullets to hot trap door levels. THEY KICK. B). The bolt will handle the .50/70 gov rim (which is same as .348 WCF)... so if you are inclined to "self abuse." I used some 93 Mauser parts for replacement??? Mr. Ackley, in his books, wrote about a series of cartridges made on the .348 case, down to 30. .450 Alaskan was the "big thumper" for the mdl 71 Win lever action and big bears. 40 & 41 cal too. Now I am happy harassing p'dogs with much smaller bullets, your bucks, your call, enjoy... happy trails.
