New Browning BLR's
« on: November 14, 2006, 10:27:56 AM »
Was hoping to get some comments from you guys on the new BLR lever action in .358 Winchester. It looks like it would make a nice  northeast deer and blackbear rifle. How is the quality of new browning rifles in your opinions? thanks Tanoose

I personally like them a lot.

My future buy list includes an new .308 in stainless with the laminated pistol grip stock.

I've been reading good things about the .358.

I have a BLR 450 Marlin with Leupold 1-4. Very nice rifle, very good fit, finish, and accuracy.

Tanoose, can't coment on the new blr's as all I have are older models. But I do have 2 in 358 and I believe for your purpose it is and ideal cartridge. I usually shoot 200gr or 250's but am thinking about trying the 225's as a possible all around bullet. In the 200gr I like the rem core-lock and the 250's I use are hornadyRN.
Factory amo is expensive so you should plan to reload. You can simply run 308 brass through a 358 die and form brass. Regards, Byron

Thanks all and thanks byron i was going to ask about using 308 brass. I see that the blr is a very strong rifle to you guys think i could use ammunition from conley and other custom ammo makers they all seem to load  the 200 grain hornady to 2700 FPS and the 250's to just over 2400FPS Where as winchester  loads there 200 silver tip to 2490 FPS. and its also more expensive.
