what is a "dugga boy"
« on: December 02, 2006, 02:50:17 PM »
I was watching a TV show about hunting dangerous game and the guide said that a "dugga boy" was one of the most dangerous but he did not tell what one is. They went on to kill a mid size cape buffalo.

As I understand it, a 'dugga boy' is an OLD cape buffalo bull that has had enough of herd life.  He is already past his breeding prime and generally on the downhill side as far as horns are concerned.  I guess the general crankiness that comes with age is what makes them nasty.  Supposed to be a real tough hunt, too.

Thanks jpsmith1
I guess that I should have been able to figure out that they were talking about a buffalo since they were hunting buffalo.
So much for the college education and deductive reasoning.

I believe it is properly spelled "Dagga Boy", and dagga is translated to mud. Hence the old bachelor groups whom are covered with mud from wallows to ward off flies, are often refered to as Dagga Boys.
