BC Buttstock question

A couple weeks ago picked up a used BC. I was remounting the stocks on my 30-30 Carbine when I noticed two things.
1. How much longer the BC forearm stock is. On the 18 in 30-30 barrel it almost looks like a Mannlicher stock.
2. The holes for the screws holding the steel buttplate are off center. This prevents the plate from being centered on the end of the buttstock. Has anyone seen this problem and if so, how did you fix it?

The butt plate and stock on all 3 of mine have had matching numbers marked in chalk on the stock and engraved on the butt plates, I think they fit the butt plates individually to each stock when they punch/drill the holes, yours must be a poor fit or mismatched. Mine are fitted very well other than one that the arch of the plate didn't quite match the arch of the butt, but I fixed that!

Put a regular forend on a BC/Target and see how that looks!! The longer forend doesn't look too bad on a 22" barrel.

Got it worked out. Previous owner had stripped both screws and had reattached by filling in the holes with toothpicks. But both screws were pushed off center.  I recentered both screws and everything went back together centered. And you were right. There is a 4 digit (1 letter and 3 numbers) serial number on the butt plate and buttstock. With the soft recoil of the 30-30 I don't think the steel buttplate will bother me.

Note how the longer BC forearm looks on the 18 inch Carbine barrel.

That's a relief!!! It looks great, I like it!! Hmmm, maybe I need a short barrelled Handi!! ;)

I use tooth picks to tighten scews, but I use the round pointed kind with the pointed end near the hole opening, haven't had any problems with that yet, but I'll keep it in mind!  He must have really packed the hole to make it off center like that!! Of course I think the better way, other that using bigger screws, is to drill the holes out, glue an appropriate sized dowel in the hole and then drill a new hole.
