T7 Sold out!
« on: December 28, 2006, 04:38:03 PM »
I had a friend call,me this morning. He said they had the T7,and ML stuff marked down. So I went out and picked up some powder, pellets, and some Hornady Lock-N-Load SST's. I've found that you can twist the tail of them (useless in my opinon) and just shoot them with the red sabot. These were down to 5.00 per package of ten. All the powder was gone by afternoon. The T7 went for 15.00 per pound. I sure would like to find some at 8.00 buck a pound, but around here when it hit's 15.00 it's gone in a matter of hours.

Our Wal-mart sold out early also here in Delaware. I did not even get to see the price before it was all gone. I am glad I stocked up on it last year.  ;D

Yeah,Biff! It's Wally-World. Our regular gun shops around here, don't even carry anything for muzzel loaders. It was pretty bad, looked like those women at K-Mart,when the flashing blue light is turned on. ;D Ron

Yep, just bought a pound @ $ 15 - Sparta, IL.  Even though I'm sold on the Savage and smokeless, I still have this desire to take a deer with the old .54 caliber Knight & a round ball.............

Why would anyone put a round ball down the spout of a Knight rifle?

The rifling is too fast for a round ball. You'll throw curve balls all day.

If you want to kill with a .54 round ball , get a Hawken with a 1" in 66" twist.

That statement isn't exactly accurate. I had a .50 1-32" twisted gun that shot roundballs accurately with 90 gr. of powder. Also Knight early models came in 1-48" twist. They later went to a 1-32" and finally the 1-28 they use now. Depending on when his was made it could possibly have the 1-32 or even the 1-48 twist. All it takes is a little experimentation to see if it's possible.

My Wolverine actually isn't too bad with round balls.   I guess the real answer to 'why' would be simply cause I want to - probably read too many articles/posts about hunting with them.   There is something about using (what I assume to be) the oldest style projectile around.

Also, as a bowhunter, I don't feel too much of a challenge in taking a deer from a rest at 50 yards with my scoped Savage.  In Illinois it is legal to carry two guns while hunting, so I'm I'll just take both to my treestand and if/when a cooperative doe appears at 40 -50 yards, I'll use the Wolverine - all the while being ready for the big ole buck at 3 or 4 times the distance.

That plan worked well this year, except the alternate gun was my Ruger .44 Blackhawk...................
