250 grain max in S&W 629?
« on: April 17, 2003, 05:42:18 PM »
E-mailed the folks at Smith and Wesson with the question:  Will the 629 handle the 305 gr. Cor Bon Penetrator?  Their answer:  "Max grain is 250." Are my friends at the factory being just a little conservative?  If I buy a new 629 would I be endangering my health and safety by loading a cylinder full of Penetrators?  If not, would the 629 shoot loose after a few hundred of these boomers?

The new "enhanced" Smiths are far stronger than the older generation guns and easily hold up to the Corbons.

I have shot 300 grain hard cast in mine for five years now.  No problems so far.  I love it, great gun!
