Cast Bullet for the 357 Maximum
« on: December 08, 2006, 06:50:29 AM »
Hi,
I've got a 10" T/C Contender barrel in 357 Maximum.  It always seemed to be very picky in what bullets it liked. It shot the 200 gr. Speer TMJ very well  but that was about it.  It especially didn't seem to like lighter bullets.
My question is, have any of you found a cast bullet that your 357 Max likes?
                                                         Thanks,
                                                             Jeff

Yes, Yes Yes  ;D  (also works great for the .35 Rem) the Leadhead 204g GC WFN works great and are fairly inexpensive.

The RCBS 200gr. flatnose worked great in mine, seated out long to get closer to the rifling. Over a case full of AA1680 it was quite a shooter.

I've got an 180 gr mould from Mountain Mould that cast at 194grs with my mix and it shoots better than I can. Most pleased with all the mould's I've gotten from them. Peter aka Pistolfan

I second the RCBS 200 gr.  I've shot thousands in silhouette matches.  Most TC .357 and .357 Max barrels have a lot of freebore, so you might have to seat the bullet out further and just put a slight crimp on top of a band.  This works ok in a TC.

There is a "Group Buy" thread on the - castboolits.gunloads.com - site for a .360 200 - 220 grain six cavity Lee mould.
Have a look, I might just get in on it.

I've been using a 210gr. LBT mold for quite q few years. Since I add about 10% linotype, most bullets drop out at 205-206gr. Since the T/C has the 1-14 twist rate, any bullet above 180 should be a winner. I use a Federal 200 primer in my .357 mag loads, and a Rem.71/2 in the Max loads. Use 296 powder for both. Oh yea, by the way, all I do is seat the gas check, I don't size in my Lubrisizer. I size the bullets when I shoot them. A little Lee liquid alox, and away we go. gypsyman
