30-06 UltraComp
« on: November 26, 2006, 08:21:50 AM »
i just found out that there is (or used to be) such a firearm produced by h&r.  i can't find it in the h&r catalog, or on any websites to price one.  i tried to search this forum for info, but most of the links are broken.

so right now i'm expecting to be heartbroken when y'all tell me they don't make them anymore... :'(

btw, how much does the compensator reduce the felt recoil of the 30-03 cartridge?
When the whole world is crashing down around me, atleast I'll have my SKS.

Sorry, they don't make em any more, felt recoil and muzzle jump are reduced noticebly, but don't shoot it while hunting without hearing protection, they are considerably louder. You might catch a barrel on ebay, I sold my extra there a while back.

IF i'm lucky enough to find one, what would be a reasonable price for me to pay?

haha, and i'm a bit of a priss when it comes to rifle reports...i've never fired my .223 handi without ear protection, so there's NO WAY i'd ever fire this one with unproteced ears!   :P

Of course ebay prices are considerably more than what you'll find here in the classifieds, but it sold for $160 plus shipping. I've seen the more rare barrels on ebay go for welll over $200.

ThudThumper, just for the heck of it call Customer Service as soon as they open tomorrow, ask for Jennifer (or Gordon) and see if they have any 30-06 compensated barrels left. They had locatyed a cache of both 30-06 and .270 compensated barrels a couple of years ago and myself and others here jumped on them and bought them up. When I called to order they (someone there?) said they were all sold out of the .270's so I just ordered a compensated 30-06 and sent a frame in and had it fitted and returned to me, a week later someone posted here they had just called and were told they still had compensated .270 barrels in stock so he bought one!!! I could have gotten them both fitted at the same time if I had pushed my inquiry. What this means is from day to day, from person to person, you may get different answers. Be polite, they are great people at CS and can only go on what they are told, however from time to time different caches of barrels (and stocks) are located and brought out (I guess). Call early monday, be polite, and see what happens, and best of luck....<><.... :)
