Levers with safeties
« on: December 25, 2006, 09:16:10 AM »
I scrolled down a little here to see if this was previously discussed.  I just aquired a Puma in 454 Casull.  Has anyone else modified it to remove or make inert the silly little firing pin safety??  Its a beutifull and well made arm, very good quality but the hammer position has always been good enough for me for safe operation.  This paticular one seems very flimsy as the cross bolt type on my Marlins is very strong.  Any of your thoughts would be appreciated.

Hi,

I have a Puma 357mag 24" and I would rather have a recessed keyed lock so I can set the block when stored but have it off when not.  The machining on the safety causes mine to be about 1/16" above the top of the bolt and will catch on anything that moves across the top of it.  In trying to bend mine down a little, The little tip broke off and I have stoned it to a round profile.  It doesn't catch on things as much.
