Removing a C-lect-choke, The whole scoop!

   I have just purchased a Mossberg 185K-A  20 guage for a truck gun. I wanted something that was fast to load, reliable, yet ugly enough that it wouldn't be stolen. I need to remove the C-lect-choke from the barrel. This thing is long and hard to turn around in the truck. I was thinking that 20 to 21 inches of barrel would work great. Not only that but the ported barrel really makes a racket when fired. Any information on how to remove this choke and what the thread pitch might be ( if that's what is holding it on ) would be greatly appreciated.

P.S. Does or did anyone make a clip that holds more than 2 shells.

If you're going to shorten the barrel anyway, why remove it at all. Just lop off the barrel at the desired length and square it up.. If you are going to reinstall then I can understand removing it..  It's likely soldered on but I have seen the type sights threaded to the end of the barrel.. If trying to remove the choke be sure to remove the front sight first as it's usually used as a set screw for the choke body..
I know of no extended magazine for these guns.

I hope your right about it being soldered on as this is something I have a lot of experience with. And yes I was planning on reinstalling it. I have never owned a vairable choke before and thought it would be interesting to see what it could do.

Well soldered on or threaded it's not a one shot deal. Apply heat to the joint after removing the outer shell and turn with a padded pipe plier.. The heat to loosen the solder won't cause any damage. If threaded on the heat solder help loosen the fit a bit to allow easier removal.  Be sure to remove that sight bead before the removal attempt as it is likely acting aas a set screw to help retain the base..

The barrel was threaded but the choke was not. They just pressed the choke onto the threads. Seems crude but I guess it worked. I turned the inside of the choke out to fit the OD of the barrel and will solder it on with soft silver solder. Brought it to work and the orders are already coming in. ;D
