loading for the handi rifle

Hello folks!
first post, I have been looking for a little while, very interesting forum, looks like a lot of knowledge here.
Ive had a handi youth that i bought for my grandson for a few years, he is only 3 so he doesnt use it yet,
I am a hand loader and ive loaded for it a little just fooling around with it, I have a problem of ejecting emptys when shooting handloads, Ive read where you need to use a small base die but its a 7mm/08 and i dont know of anyone who makes a small base die in 7/08. Any one else experience this and if so have you found a fix? No problems with factory loads.
I tried to do a search but it says that Im not allowed to search on this forum.

You should not need  small-base dies for your 7-08 Handi.  What kind of loads are you using that don't eject well?  Since factory loads work fine we can eliminate a gun problem.  It may be that you are loading to excessive pressures and sticking the cases, or your cases are being improperly resized (reloader or die problem).

Welcome aboard!! Since you have no problems with factory ammo, as LS noted, the problem is a resizing issue or too hot of loads, also possibly the cases aren't clean, any sizing lube left on them will cause sticking. The search is disabled until the database is indexed which is taking longer than anticipated.

Thanks for the info, but I dont think pressures are high due to the fact that any thing above the starting load , starts the problems, Ive never loaded a max or any where close to a max in this rifle. I havnt tried it with new unfired brass and this may help. Now that hunting season is close to an end and weather permitting I might start fooling with it some more.

Welcome to the forum!

About your case sticking problem-there's more than one thing that can cause or contribute to fired cases sticking.  If this only happens with you reloads, it's probably related to your loads, or loading technique.

It may be that start loads are near max in your rifle.

Will an unfired handload chamber and lock up with no extra effort  and eject without sticking? Or do unfired reloads have sticky or sluggish ejection?
