Marlin Limited Edtion model 3082
« on: January 07, 2007, 05:43:01 AM »
Ive found a model 3082 marlin in 30-30.  It is a limited edtion with engraving on the forarm and buttstock and has a U.S Calvary Commemorative coin in the buttstock.  I was trying to find the value of this gun.  I want to purchase it and the person is willing to sale but neither of us knows the value.  The person is my Grandaddy.  I killed my first deer with this gun.  He gave me a remington model 700 adl when I was 12. He wants to trade me the marlin for the remington and give me 50 dollars.  Both of the guns have great sentimental value to me.  The remington will be hard to get rid of but i really like the marlin because I killed my first deer with it.  What is the value of the Marlin? Any information will be greatly appreciated.

If it were me I would take Granddad to the local gunstore and say pick you out a rifle, you can't put a price on a rifle that was your Granddads that he hunted with for who knows how long and then that you were able to kill your first deer with, nor can you put a price on the rifle your Granddad gave you.  Just my .02 worth but I put high value on such things, tradition and family are important, the most valuable guns that I own are of little value to anyone else given to me by family and friends  over the years, some of these people are now gone, but money wouldn't buy any of these guns, they will be mine until I find someone worthy to own them and then I will pass them on, hopefully the person who gets them will have truly been worthy and value them as much as I do.

You guys are right.  I think ill hang on the 700 but I told him he could use it until he cant hunt any longer.  He just wants a gun that will shoot longer ranges.  The Marlin has a lot of sentimental value along with the 700.  I guess Ill just take it as it goes.   Thanks for the info.

The model 3082 Marlin is part of a special run commissioned by Oklahoma Tire and Supply Co. (OTASCO) These are merely model 30 Marlins with the medallions added. They are the same metal parts as typical Marlin model 30 and 336 levers. They used the cheaper birch stocks like the model 30 Marlin.
The 3082 was made in 1982, and should have a serial number prefix of "2T". These guns have no special extra value over regular model 30 Marlins, and prices are the same, unless new in box. Generally they run in the $150-$300 range. Needs to be like new to get $300.
