Cheap 6" eye relief scope
« on: September 21, 2006, 05:31:30 PM »
In my latest Midway catalog I see a Bushnel 3X9 scope with a 6" eye relief. This seems to be what I have wanted for a long time. I think I could use thas on my .223 Contender and get a better field of view (plus a bit more power than my 2x9). Any comments?

Mike,
Give her a whirl.  You may or may not like it.  If it is not for you, sell it.
JUst be cautious about creeping toward the scope.

I wouldn't waste my money.  I tried one on my .223 and can't see where the eye relief is even close to 6 inches.  I still get tapped if I'm not careful and I use to get buy with a regular rifle scope that was much clearer.

Rifle scope + Contender = black eye.  I tried it with a .222 14".  Now, to be fair, my scope had nowhere near the 6" of eye relief that your talking about, even a little caliber like that smacked my eyebrow with every shot.  I broke down and bought a Burris 3x-9x.  Good scope.

Thats funny.  I was sighting in my 45 black powder(16.5" contender with a cheap Bushnell) the other day and it bout knocked me clean out. Hit me right between the eyes. I had a hard time getting it to stop bleeding. My 12 yr. old daughter was helping me and she thought I had shot mydumbself. Needed a few sticthes but did'nt go get them. Gunna leave a war scar. I put a Limbsaver slipon pad on it and moved the scope back one notch(so I could see through it again) and it don't hit me at all. Guess it just needed better contact with my sholder. Got a nine point and a doe both with it bout 5 minutes apart on opening mornin (Saturday).

I finally tried the cheap Bushnell.

The 6" eye relief is only on low power. It's more like 4" at 9 power.

It is hard to get used to getting that close to a pistol, but it is worth it. It had a much better field of view and was less fussy.

I started with downloaded 40 gr and worked up to maximum load. No problem with black eyes using a rest and a two handed hold.

I will try 45-50-and 55 gr next time out.
