Used 870 Magnum Express
« on: October 31, 2005, 03:56:49 AM »
I saw a used 870 magnum at my local gander mountain this weekend for $200.  It had a parkerized finish and wood stock and both were in very good condition.  The barrel had some very minor scratches on it.  It had a short barrel on it, probably 24".  The one think I didn't really like about it was the choke tube stuck out the end of the barrel about an inch.  It was a full choke tube and I was thinking that it may be some sort of special turkey choke tube and I would probably be able to buy other choke tubes that would screw in flush with the end of the barrel.  I was wondering if this was a good deal for the gun and also if my assumptions about the choke tube are right.  Thanks for any help.

Something that I forgot to ask in my original post was if the express magnum could chamber 3 1/2" shells.  I don't remember exactly from looking at the gun, but it seems like it could only chamber 3" shells.  I am pretty much wondering the difference between the express, magnum express, and super magnum express.  Thanks.

I'm pretty sure the 870 Magnum you're talking about can accept 3&1/2" shells, but the only sure way to be sure of course is to look at the barrel and see if it says so. If you are wanting to buy this gun, I would if I were you. Seems like a good buy for a good price :D
