Youth 243 wood or synth?
« on: December 04, 2006, 06:09:30 PM »
I am going to be buying a youth .243 for my girlfriend (5' 100lb) and was wondering whether to buy a wood or synthetic stocked rifle. Particularly I am wondering if a synthetic rifle will be too light and kick hard. Any opinions? Thanks.

Welcome to Graybeard Outdoors!  I wouldn't worry about the difference, the syn stock set weighs 1lb-5oz, a pallet wood set weighs 1lb-10oz, I would get the wood stocked model, if the recoil bothers her, put a Limbsaver recoil pad on it, that's not as easy to do with the syn stock unless you use a slip on. The wood stock will be easier to shorten if you need to, also.

If it interests you, I have a set ( butt stock & forearm ) of Youth wood stocks I'd let go for $45 shipped, in the case you decide to buy your gun with full size stock, and want a spare set.
