huntsman to be discontinued
« on: November 30, 2006, 02:08:04 AM »
First time poster here. I was in the market for a new combo gun and was looking at a Rossi. did'nt like the shot gun barrel that came with it and did some more checking. Came across NEF/H&R web site. I have owned a Handi-rifle for the last few years, but I did'nt know about the extra barrel program. Needless to say, I was sold on a new Huntsman combo. I called the factory just to make sure I could get the barrel(s) I wanted. When I asked the rep about the Huntsman, she told me that they were going to be discontinued next year. I then asked if they planned on making muzzle loaders anymore and she told me "No". I really like my Handi-rifle and I'm sure I'll like the Huntsman. thought I'd pass this along in case anyone else was thinking about getting a new ML before they're gone.

I can see them discontinuing the Huntsman, but I don't think they are going to get out of the muzzleloading game completely. I feel the Sidekick will be sticking around, but you never know what kinds of decisions the suits are making anymore. ::)

Guess we will just have to wait and see what happens. ???

It would be interesting to know if they were going to offer Huntsman ML barrels through the accessory barrel program....<><.... :)

It's possible the new SBS frame has something to do with that decision...if it's true. It wouldn't be the first or second time we've been given misinformation by H&R. ???

I hope they change their minds >:(  Maybe they are considering discontinuing the barrel but it would be a mistake if they did.

I hope not. My daughter is wanting a combo with the 243 barrel. I guess I'd better get on the stick and order like NOW!

My wife wants to get me a new Handi in .223 for Christmas.  I want the ML barrel too.  I better get on ordering it and getting the ML barrel fitted too.  Anyone know if I can still get one now?

I called NEF Customer Service Monday at mid-day -- the lady told me that she knew nothing about discontinuing ML rifles, and that there are plenty of 26" barrels for re-fitting. She did say that 24" barrels are gone and will not be made any more. It's funny this came up now -- I am just about to send my Pardner in for a .50 ML barrel.

That is good to hear. I have a 24" Huntsman and really like it, especially for the price. (I would like to move up to the 26" later, for 150 grn's of powder)

CDA, as long as your 24" barrel is in good condition I would be interested in buying it from you since I have no interest or need to load 150 grains of BP. If you would be interested in selling it to me you could then use the money to help offset the cost of a new 26", 150 grain capable barrel, We could each benefit from such a deal, think about it....<><.... :)
