scope mounts for 98's

I found at Samco Global Arms they have Iron Sighter brand scope mounts for "98's" with bases. I purchased the "se-thru'  $16 and they clear the bent bolt I bent at home here perfectly. I just assembled it on my 98 project gun, if you remember the 98 I changed the barrel on?? I finnally started on it again to finish it this time. Now all i have left is the stock to finish and then sight it in. Of course the scope and mounts cost me more than the rest of the gun did. I'm still under $150 for the gun/barrel/scope/mounts not bad for an 8mm mauser all rebuilt. I'm thinking of using this scope mount on my M1895 7MM hunting rifle too the only thing is the front base is different(small ring) but the rear base is the same and I already have a front base.  The nice part is no special bolt is needed you can bend the straight bolt and it works with this site.

I just bore sighted it today and it was three clicks off in both directions not bad for the first time drilling and tapping the reciever with no fixture or guide to mount the scope. The rear mount is easier to do first and centering it then drilling and tapping it. Then layout the scope with mounts off the rear one to line up the front one. I use masking tape on the reciever and a ball point pen to mark the front base mounts position reciever then take it apart and put the base back on and line up the side pen marks then transfer the holes to the reciever. Then prick punch/ drill/ tap and i use locktite the forever stuff on the mount screws.

Now my 7mm varmit gun is next to mount the scope on with the same see-thru mounts but I have to change the front base to the small ring which I already have.  This should work fine with the straight bolt bent down too. These mounts have plenty of height so there is plenty of bolt clearance no special turned down bolt is needed.        BigBill

The weaver sidemounts I bought sit too low to use large diameter scopes like 50mm and also don't clear the orginal bolt that I bent. The Iron Sighter See-Thru from Samco fits/clears everything.

I wanted to post what I figured out to help someone out with their 98 and 95 scope mountings.  It may work on the swede's and simialir mausers too.  The Iron Sighters come with base mounts too for large ring mausers.
Thats scope rings w/see thru, and base mounts for $16.
