Please bear with me if I do not conform with your style of asking questions as I am a new member to this forum.

I have a .475 Linebaugh that I am proud to say was made for me by John Linebaugh several years ago.  It is on a blued bisley frame with a 4 5/8" barrel.  I cannot say enough regarding the quality of this gun.  John is very proud of all the work that he does and this attitude is obvious in his work.

Since my vision is not what it used to be I have a question that I am sure that members of this forum can address.  I would like to put either a fixed 2-power or a variable 2.5 x 8-power Leupold scope on this hunting gun.  My question is this, who makes a top quality set of mounts and rings for this particular setup.  I am fully aware of the recoil generated by the hot loads that I shoot and therefore, I would like to purchase a 3-ring setup to secure the scope to the mount and gun.

I would look into these( http://www.jackweigand.com/scope.html )I have herd good things about them. I bought the B-Square mount for my 480 SRH. So I could put a Halo sight on it but had nothing but trouble with the mount not holding it's zero. I went back to a scope with the rings Ruger provides and have had no problems! Later I found out about the Weigand mounts but just stayed with what i had set up. I've never been a B-Square fan and that experience(the 2nd ) was the last for me! Hope it helps!

sorry but i couldnt do it on a nice gun like that especially a 4 5/8s gun. I would look into something not so ugly like having it fit with trinium inserts in the sight blades. I Think Dave clements would do that for you and Dustin Linebaugh might take it on too. I know i go against alot of people here but i dont think scopes belong on revolvers. On a single shot yes but not a revolver especially a short barrelled one. If i absolutely got the the point where i couldnt hunt with a revolver because of my eyes (and its comming) Id hunt with a lever or a contendor or worse case senerio a super redhawk or blackhawk hunter with a scope. But thats just my opinion and others have theres. But God should forbid it on a short barreled linebaugh gun.

Thanks to the the both of you, Sniper2u00 and Lloyd.  Both the website and the opinion expressed are much appreciated.  Lloyd, you are not the first too object to modifying this handgun, there is a core of afficionodos that share your opinion.  I will have to give the subject some more thought before I decide on the action that I will take.

I have owned a TSOB mount by SSK industries which permits up to four rings.  It is not handsome.  There is a nice Lovell mount shown on Freedom Arms website that is used on hard-recoiling handguns.  It is much more attractive.

That said, I think like others that better iron sights might be best on your revolver.  Hamilton Bowen makes a nice set of sights and can modify revolvers with the best of them.  However, these modifications are probably as expensive as a new Ruger Super Redhawk with scope mounts or a Ruger Super Blackhawk with barrel-located scope mounts.

If possible, I would suggest borrowing a friend's scoped handgun and experiencing a range session.  You may also want to try to carry the larger item around with a bandolier holster.  It is not as easy as the pictures make it seem.

Lloyd, thanks for your generous offer, but I learnt a long time ago to never trade of otherwise give away weapons.  While an undergrad, at University, I had to sell a Weatherby 300 Mag to meet rent and while that was some years ago to this date I still regret that transaction.  I am certain that most of you know exactly what I mean.  But, Lloyd, again I thank you for your offer.

Chipster, thanks for your insightful input.  Actually, I have a set of Hamilton Bowen's iron sights already installed on the .475 Linegaugh.
