How Does the SW1911 Stack Up to Others?
« on: December 24, 2006, 04:18:44 PM »
Okay, help me out please ...

I'm the only guy in my shooting circles who doesn't own a 1911.  A local store has a clearance on handguns, to include one full-sized SS Smith & Wesson SW1911.  How does this model stack up to other 1911's out there?

I'm a fan of S&W revolvers, and now that they've bought T/C the relationship is getting even closer.

The SW1911 is around $625 right now, so I need to jump if it's not a loser gun.  I read on the internet about the external extractor and how the beavertail safety is wired up different.  Anything else I should consider?

Thanks in advance,

B. Noz.

I don't own one!
I have read many reports of those who do and, by a large majority, the reports are very positive.
A lot of the custom boys like the gun for a build-up.
You may have to do some tweaking but that is true with many.
If the price is good--get it.
Run 500/1000 rounds thru it and it should smooth out. No new gun--well, maybe a Sig is an exception, does not have a break in period. My old and faithful PPK did.
Blessings

The S&W 1911s I have seen have been good shooters. The owners are very fond of them. For $650 I'd try one! I have half a dozen or so 1911s which include Kimbers, Charles Daly, and Taurus. All run great! My latest aquisition is a Taurus 1911. I shot an IDPA match with it Saturday, it runs and shoots as well as my fullsize Kimber at this point. All steel forgings, slick inside and out. All in ll, a heck of a value for $485. Only about 300 rds downrange so far with zero bobbles with everything from 200gr SWC to Ranger "T". I think I got my money's workth!!
