Model 700 Action ??
« on: December 03, 2006, 05:27:39 PM »
I have a Rem 700 SA, originally a .243, I am interested in making a custom 300WSM. I realize the bolt face is different for the two calibers. My question is whether this action can be used? If so what has to be done to modify the bolt face? Also if this will work can a Sako type extractor be utilized. Thanks for any Help!

You could do this, either by opening up the bolt face and installing a Sako extractor, or better yet get a new Dave Kiff (PTG) bolt to fit your reciever. Cut the feed rails open just enough to allow the rounds to pass through,See if you can find a short action ultramag box and follower, and if you still can't get it to feed then get the HS Precision bottom metal and center feed magazine. While this can be done, I don't recommend it because feeing is a real pain. If you need a short fat cartridge, the .284 works a lot better in Remingtons, or just get a Winchester or Kimber or some sort of rifle made for WSM cartridges to start with. It'll be cheaper in the long run and work a lot better.
