45/70 Hornady "Leverevolution" ammunition
« on: November 30, 2006, 03:25:07 AM »
I hadn't given any thought to the 45/70 Leverevolution ammunition until I read an ad for it this morning. They advertise a 325Gr. bullet with a muzzle velocity of 2050FPS.
I am curious if anyone has tried this in a Buffalo Classic.I'm used to mid velocity handloads. Is this too much whoomph for a handi ?

It's OK for the handi and B/C............................if you're used to midrange, it may not be OK for your shoulder.

I shot a deer with this load at a little over 100 yards, bang, flop, not even a twitch. Off the bench my 300gr Rem handloads at 2000fps with R7 kick harder.

How much Rel7 in that load?I also use Rel7 with 300 Gr. .458 hollow points.

I haven't taken any game with it but my handi groups better with them than any factory ammo I've tried.

I was really impressed with them. Was shooting 300gr JHP remingtons, they feel about the same in recoil, but I have a limbsaver slip now, so it doesn't feel bad at all. ;D

I've shot the leverevolution out of my handi and BC, the guns like it, I like it and I think it would be fine for deer, black bear, caribou and probably moose, I'm not sure I'd use it for the "big" bears.

Just got back from the deer camp today and all I can say about the leverevolution is wow. Yesterday I took a doe at 86 yds. It was a lung shot broadside. The bullet entrance took out one rib and exited with a 2" hole. No it didn't knock it down are make it do backflips, it immediately jumped into the biggest thickest briarpatch you have ever seen. After crawling on my knees for about 20 yds I got her.
Good Hunting

Due to Mississippi allowing 45-70 handi rifle to be used as a Primative weapon this season. I bought my first Handi and hunted with it last saturday. Killed a doe with the rifle using the Leverevolution ammo and was very pleased with the result.

They shoot very well in my 45-70, recoil no problem, due to the Choate Varmit stock, even from the bench. My woods rifle with 2x7 Mueller scope.

I hope Hormady offers the bullets for reloading My 45/70 Handi loves them.
