357 mag in gp100 ( ruger)

I was wondering about getting either a 357 mag in either a gp 100 or the blackhawk. I reload. I love the SA, but I guess I'll have to save up a little more so I can get a gp 100. Whether it's a blackhawk or gp 100, Ill get a long barrel. But it would be nice to have a DA. I have a 45 colt blackhawk and I really like it. decisions, decisions! ::)

Depends on your applications. For hunting/plinking, the SA is as good as it gets! For SD I'd go with the DA, with a 4" barrel of course!

I don't know, when I'm reaching for a 'field gun' I generally reach for my Ruger Security Six.  A 4" DA .357 Mag with 158 gr LSWC handload and usually a pocketful of .38s just because sometimes I gotta just shoot for the fun of it.

I have2 GP 100's, 4" blued fixed sight, and a 6" SS , both 357's. Excellent and accurate revolvers.

There is no reason to limit yourself to four inch barrels. I carry a six inch Ruger every day. That Ruger has been with me for 35 yearsand will last the next 35 if it wears as well as it has the first 35.

For hunting I'd recomend the 357 Bisley, the 7.5 inch barrel and steel grip frame make shooting the heaviest 357's easy, and talk about fun to plink with. Good luck

I have the GP100 in a 4" barrel and that gun is very accurate.If I were to hunt with a 357 I would use my contender with a 10" barrel.

If all you want is a fun gun, I'd stick with the SA. It's more fun to shoot, and a heck of a lot easier to clean! I'd go with the .357 Bisley.

they are both good guns, I would go to the shop, look at them both, hold em, flick the trigger a couple times, and decide which you think fits better and is purtier.  They both shoot good, but which one would you like to be seen with?   ;D ;D ;D

I don't care for the feel of a SA.  With double action you can still have the SA feature, and much easier to reload.

Plan to buy both. I have both. I have a bunch of 4 5/8" barrel .357 NMBHs that I use for cowboy action shooting and a new 4" SS GP100. Both types have their pluses and minuses, but I love both. Both are very accurate. It really is a matter of which you want to get first.

How many times to you send more than six slugs at a time at a deer? If you are in a gunfight and are able to get off six rounds, you certainly have enough cover to reload a single action too
