First Deer with 460s&w
« on: December 05, 2006, 01:56:10 PM »
Shot my first deer last Sunday with the S&W 460 XVR using a 200gr Hornady at 47 yards.  The big doe literally did not take a step and dropped on the spot, after the bullet passed through both lungs.  Half inch exit hole, but it tore up the lungs pretty good, probably from the impact shock.

I guess I won't be carrying the shotgun for awhile.  Got one more tag to fill on Dec 16 & 17 in Southern Ohio, and still waiting for a good size buck.

Way to go, but are you sure it was not over kill as some have said. LOL ;D

Hope you fill your second tag.

Nice!  I wanted to take a deer with mine. It didn't work out for me >:(  I didn't see anything worth shooting with it.  I reload for mine using 240gr xtps.  Once again good job, hope your lucks continues!

Thanks guys.  I am heading out again next weekend for the last of the gun season in Ohio.  Like to try this thing at a little longer range, and hopefully on a buck that I have got some pictures of on a trailcam.

As far as being too much gun for deer hunting;  I tell you if I can drop a deer right on its tracks, without damaging the back-straps, its a winner in my book. ;D

I am hoping for a Dillon reloading setup for Christmas (hope my wife is reading this ;)), and if that works out, I will be reloading instead of using the expensive Hornady's next year.
