Pastor, If I read your question right, I think that you are fairly new to rifles. There can be some confusion with rifle makes and calibers. Basiclly, whoever designs a new cartridge gets to name it, and all other manufacurers must use that name. There are many ".300" calibers out there, none are interchangable. What I believe you have is a rifle chambered for the .300 Savage round. Regardless if it is a Savage rifle, Remington rifle, or anything else, the correct ammo to us is .300 Savage. It is a fine all-around cartride, a little less powerfull then the .308 Winchester round, and a little more powerfull then the old .30-30. The .300 Savage came out about 1920 or so, and was very popular in the Savage lever action model 99. To abe sure of your chambering, check your rifle barrel, it should be stamped .300 Savage ( even though it is on a Remington). The Remington rifle you have is very nice, should be real accurate. I'm sure there must be some sites you can go to that will give you year of manufacture. Ammo is still availabe, due to the many thousands of rifles made for it in the past, BUT ammo may not be found at every gunshop. Just remember, you need .300 Savage ammo, regardless of which brand ( remington, winchester, Federal, or whatever), the ammo MUST be labeled ".300 Savage". BTW Savage has not sold ammo for many years. Enjoy that rifle.
