Problem with Glock 22 15 round clips....
« on: October 21, 2006, 03:51:31 PM »
I have two clips for my pistol. After cleaning today I tried to release the slide with an empty clip in the magwell by sliding down on the slide release lever and found it EXTREMELY hard to do. I had to push down on it with both hands to get it to release the slide and allow it to slide forward. I tried it with the other clip and it worked normally.

Both clips are made by Glock and both have the same capacity but the lip areas on both clips are very different. From the rear one has a very square looking notch just under the .40 on the clip and the other has a round area instead of square. The round one works better.

I hope Im explaining this right. Is there any way to get the square back clip to work better? It really takes all my strength to get it to release the slide whn that clip in in.

I would find glocks address and write them a letter tell them the problem and go from there.

It sounds like you have a non-drop free mag, and a current production one.  If the slide releases normally without the mag inserted the pistol is operating normally.

The slide lock is forced upwards (to engage the slide) by the magazine follower, so you are probably working against the spring tension of the magazine.  Since one mag is newer than the other, one of them may have a weaker spring.

Hate to be the bearer of bad news but, there is nothing wrong with your Glock or your magazines. The slide lock lever is actuated by the follower in you magazine. When the magazine empties the last round and you shoot the round causing the slide to cycle back. The FOLLOWER IN THE MAGAZINE pushes the slide lock lever up locking back the slide. ITS SUPPOSED TO DO THIS. The reason you are having trouble with releasing the slide with an empty magazine in it is, the magazine follower is trying to do its job, and is fighting with you over it. Simply take the magazine out, release the slide and put the empty magazine in it. Are you really up on how an automatic pistol works? Besides shooting and reloading it I mean. ;)
