Oh no sorry. I was posting a ton on the bear bait hunt site and thought you might have been there the past month or so and it was old news.

I burn the bacon for bears but for deer I'm thinking about pouring a bottle or two of some kind of doe scent in the cooker, warm it up with heat and "caribou buck" might think he has a fresh hot one in area.

That Tinks 69 never did nothing for me. I thought that was the best stuff out there?

Same with that "Deer Cocaine" - NOTHING!

I had a customer come into Gander MTN. the other day, and I asked him "This Tinks 69 stuff... I sell a ton of it, it must be good - eh?"  He said "I've had mixed results.  Some years while the rut is in full I've had bucks run right up to it, the majority of the years inbetween there is no reaction.  The reason you sell a lot of it is because it's name is everywhere, and they always offer good deals on it around hunting season."  Didn't really think about that before.  They have a fairly strong advertising campaign, and they are always in a clearance bin at our store in October.  We also carry Whitcombs (frozen stuff) and don't sell nearly as much, though folks who have used it love it.

Great idea on the bear lure.

HuntingGuy I'm leaving for cabin next 3 days. Bringing in supplies and the ATV to leave up there. Will meet with my buddies Thursday noon there. They will hold the fort down for the opener.

I will pass you on your way up maybe on Interstate 35. Good luck. We only have so many of these deer hunts to go on. I kind of feel sorry for my buddy "Corky" up there being 78 years old. He knows there are only a limited number of hunts left for him. I can see it in his face each time I visit him.

Old "poopy pants" will be with me when we head up finally (depends on the election and how cocky he gets). He might be sitting in a wayside rest looking for a ride back to St Paul. Don't give him one!

Hope you put in an absentee ballot. I always like to vote early and vote often!

I'll post pics of the hunt around Nov 21st.

;D Don't have to tell me twice.  Yep, got the ballot in - Hopefully Pawlenty, Kennedy, and Klinzing can pull this one out!!!  ...Otherwise who knows what goofy crap Hatch will try and impose on our hunting here in the northwoods.

I'll be meeting Troy in Monticello on Thursday at 17:00 and we plan on taking off to Roseau right from there.  Should get up by 22:30 or so.  I'm sure the butterflies in my stomach will wake me up on Friday morning  ;)

Be safe up there, and I WANT PICS! (Not from Google Images, either..........  :D)

As for your buddy Corky, better spend as much time as you can with him and learn as much as you can - sounds like a great outdoorsman as do you.

I'll be hanging around on here tomorrow but probably won't make it on on Thursday.

HG, what Gander do you work at?  I live in Maplewood and have probably ran into you since I frequent the ones in this area.

This young man called me a couple years ago to ask if I had an active bait, and I did, so I let him use it.
His first night in the stand he killed this bear.
Wieghed in at just a skosh over 400 lbs dressed (On a scale)
I quit baiting a couple years ago, but had many years of fun doing it.

Here is my buck from last year, A really nice 8 pointer that was a huge body ( I wish I could have weight the deer but it was very heavy )
Took him with a T/C encore 209X50 at 10 yards.
The deer has a mane too.
The eye to nose measurement is 8 1/8" which is huge, most large deer have a measurement of 7.5" to 7.75", The taxidermist that I took him to has only seen 2 deer that were that size in the 25 years that he was in the business.

Click on the smaller pic as it shows the deer better
