Which Handi rimfire barrel
« on: December 10, 2006, 12:13:28 PM »
Greetings all I am new to the group, but a longtime Handi rifle centerfire owner. I have a question about the 17 hmr.  I am going to buy the 22 lr at the sporting goods store and then send off the reciever to have a 17 hmr barrel put on it and was wondering who all has that caliber in the bull and standard barrel and what kind of groups you get with which ammo. Any response would be appreciated. Thanks, Charlie

Charlie, the 17hmr and 17M2 are only available with bull barrels, I have both calibers, great shooters with the right ammo choice, after break in, they're capable of MOA shooting with a good scope, easy!! The only bull barrel .22 rimfire is the mag if you get the Ultra, there's no .22Lr bull barrel. The 17M2 isn't shown on the acc list, but is available.

It's my opinion that it's a much better buying decison to get a complete Sportster than to get an accessory barrel, a complete M2 or Hmr will cost $130 locally and at Walmart, even less on sale. The 22Lr is only $109 at Walmart, an accessory barrel will cost $94-$98 plus the cost of shipping your frame to them. Academy had the .22Lr on sale last year for $80-$90, if I remember correctly.

Does walmart sell the 17 hmr with the bull barrel or just the standard barrel? I looked at the special order book at Walmart on the way home from church this morning and it didn't say bull barrel? What do you all think?

The 17hmr Sportster isn't made with a standard barrel, only a bull barrel. Yes, they sell all of the NEF/H&R line, if you don't find it in one catalog, ask to see the other one, they have 2.

I read a post about a "quad ultra 17 hmr" is that the same as you were telling me about? Charlie

H&R has a 3 barrel combo listed, but no one has seen one yet. There's a Sako bolt rifle that come with several barrels called a quad, but it's not an NEF/H&R.
