Old Badge
« on: August 05, 2007, 05:57:32 PM »
Hunting in an area near Buffalo Gap, Texas, I found an old Deputy Sheriff Badge made from a silver Mexican coin.  It looks like the Texas Rangers badge, but says "Deputy Sheriff on the top part of the circle, on the bottom it has a name D. B. Neal.  I can't date it because you cant read the date on the coin, it does not have a County or City name on it so I have been unable to locate anyone by this name.  I found it with-in the first 10 minutes of hunting an old home place, and found nothing else for the remainder of the day.  Maybe someday I can return it to his family.

My guess on the date of this old badge would be from, the 1870s to early 1900. I have seen these a couple of times before. Usually people around this time didnt move a lot like we do now days. So i reccomend checking old census records for the area you might find him.
