Where to get a 17 HMR contender?
« on: December 17, 2006, 12:58:42 AM »
Hi everyone,

I have a TC Encore "hunter's package" in .308, and I love it. However, I'd like to get into a 17 HMR, but I am told that the Encore will not work with rimfire barrels. I understand EABCO makes a rimfire conversion kit that will make this work. Has anyone tried this? Or would my best bet be to buy a complete  17 HMR Contender? Does anyone have any recommendations on the best place to get it?.

Thank you for your time,

Steve

for a ENCORE rimfire you really only have one choice and that is to go custom.
Ebco I think sells a special rimfire firing pin as does midway usa and bullberry (may be some others as well)  with this firing pin you have to remove the factory and replace it with the off set one. This is a very simple job ad only takes about 2 minutes.
The other way to go is get and OTT  off set barrel, this barrel you do not need to do anything to the frame

I went for the G2 in the 17HMR. the package is lighter and by the time you buy custom barrel , forearm and conversion kit you are not saving any thing. Gives you a small platform to buy more barrels for ;D both rifles are always ready to go - no time spent switching over.
