20 gauge 1187 Premier vs Browning Gold
« on: December 19, 2006, 02:42:33 PM »
FOLKS ,
I,m looking for a new shotgun in 20 gauge for clay birds  & then a slug barrel for deer . I'm wondering if any of you all have either of these & what your likes / dislikes are. I haven't bought a new shotgun in many years so I'd apprreciate any input you have. The 12 gauge is getting a little rough on this older guy & I'm told the rifled 20 gauge slugs will do fine out to 100 yards . Whats your thoughts ??
Thank you in advance for your time & help.

I have an 11-87 Premier 20 ga. It has the 26 inch vent rib barrel on it. I'm going to buy a Remington 21 inch fully rifled barrel with the cantilever scope mount (PT#27591) for deer hunting. It has the matte finish on it, but it's the only barrel made for a 11-87 20 ga. with the cantilever scope mount. I'm going to have it blued. Remington also makes a 21 inch fully rifle barrel with rifle sights (PT#29563). It has the blued finish on it. If you look at the ballistics on some of the newer sabot slug they're pretty impressive. Look at the Winchester Partition Gold and Remington Core-Lokt Ultra Bonded slugs. They're probably effective out to 150 yards or so.

Don't know about the Browning's.

Oh yeah, likes- light weight 6 3/4 lbs., fits me like a glove, nice light recoil, pretty easy to field strip for cleaning.
Dislikes- they don't make a 21 inch fully rifled barrel with the cantilever scope mount on it that has the blued finish!  ;D
