I have been thinking about getting a lyman great plains hunter in 50 cal. percussion. With this rifle I beleive that you can get a 54 cal. great plains barrel also. Have only shot a malory ounce before but think this is a great sport and want to try it out. :)

I have to second your choice on the Lyman GPR and commend your decision.  In my opinion, which is worth exactly what you're paying for it, the GPR is the best produciton rifle out there.  I'd recommend the 54 cal. over the 50, especially if you're going to hunt with it.
