THE BIGGEST Bragging rights.
« on: May 11, 2007, 11:50:08 PM »
Ok people, why don't we have a little something here that lets us know who grew what this year.

If you get something out of the ordinary, tell us and post a pic.

I have seen some huge Tomatoes and Pumpkins, among other things, over the years at Fairs.

So if you get one of the heavy weights growing in your vegetable garden, let us know.

I grow my veggies for "food" and that means it has to taste good.  The giants never taste as good as the average size, so i never grow veggies for size...

It isn't just size, but odd shapes also.  I grow veggies for food too but sometimes I get a tomato or a pepper that takes on some odd shapes.

I have grown tomato's that have taken two hands to hold and cut in half to fit on a slice of bread, but I have also grown some that looked somewhat like they coud have Male or Female Human Body parts.  (if you know what I mean)

For the purposes of this thread, anything will do.

Well I should have a good chance of either getting some extra large tomatoes or some with weird shapes.  I usually plant about eight or ten plants and end up giving away more tomatoes than we eat.  This year I started my plants from seeds, something I haven't done in a number of years.  I planted three packages, one of Fourth of July, one of early Girl and one of heirloom and I think every darn seed germinated.  I have already set out about forty or so plants and have also given away a bunch of plants.  I’ve not grown the Fourth of July before and am looking forward to seeing what I get out of the heirloom mix.  I still have about ten or so plants to find a place for.

I believe you will be the 'go-to' guy for tomatoes on GBO.  Hopefully you can Can or freeze them at the end of the year.  Canning Tomato's is no big problem and home-made Spaghetti Sauce is great.  I have a recipe for Green Tomato Relish here somewhere, if you think you might need it.  You should not have any problem getting rid of any bounty you yield.

I have a Brother that plants about 3 dozen (or more) tomato plants every year.   He plants Grape, Cherry, Big Boys, Early Girls, Beefsteak, Orange Ones, Yellow ones and he even planted White Ones one year.  Needless to say, he always ends up with alot more than he can possibly handle.

I have about 8 Tomato Plants in my garden.  I learned my lesson a long time ago...
