.375 WSSM
« on: September 18, 2006, 08:37:43 AM »
I am making a .375 WSSM rifle out of a browning A-bolt.  By my calculations I should be able to push a 300 grn bullet about 2100 or 2200 fps.  Will defiantly kill anything Michigan has to offer? When it’s done I plan on taking it hunting Michigan black bear.

I would like to make another in .452 and use 400 grn + hard cast

I plan on rebarreling using a 375 H&H reamer to do the throat and then a 25 WSSM reamer with a 375 button to finish out the chamber. I’m having a set of 25 WSSM dies opened up to except the wider case mouth and that’s about it.

That is a very interesting project.  I love the old .375 H&H and was thinking about having a .376 Steyr built but now you have me thinking.

Unless you have a short action, why not wait a few months and go with the .375 Ruger?  They are supposed to be plentiful in the first quarter of '07.  You will have the advantage of factory brass and ammo, could easily download it to the velocities you cite, and could have better than H&H power when wanted.  All in a .30-06 length action.

30-06 LENGTH ACTION!!!!!!!!!!!!! GOD LORD THAT’S A LOT OF BOLT THROW ;D
I just bought a browning A-bolt hunter in 223 WSSM for $400.00 bucks the barrel I got for $75 and the dies for $25. so for $500.00 bucks I have a gun that will shoot 300 grn bullets at 2100 fps in an action that’s WAYYYYYY smaller than a 30-06.

I currently have a 8mm WSSM that I made on a Winchester WSSM action that will shoot 200 grn bullets at about 2500 fps

I’m already looking at making another one in 458

Good lord some one stop me!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! :D

You really have an great project there.  You can't beat the .375.

How about a .416wssm.  Plenty of bullets available.  Much, much smaller than .416 Rigby or Remington and still smaller than .416 Taylor.  I like it.

Would be a great small light rifle to carry all day in Africa.    I like how you think.

Sounds like a short range rifle.  Kind of like the .375 Win.  Got my Marlin for $250.  $500 sounds like a lot of bolt thro... uhh, money! ;)
