Remington Summit
« on: January 13, 2007, 05:25:14 PM »
I had my choice for a new airgun narrowed down to a RWS 34.  But I keep getting the Remington Summit back on my mind.  I know it is made by Crossman, which makes me wonder if the RWS quality is not better.  The Summit has some nice looking wood though, and I like a gun with a gloss finish on a nice piece of wood.

Does anyone have any experience with the Remington Summit?

I had it for about a week.  After about 500 shots it started to lose power.  Toward the end of the 500 or so shots at 3 feet away it couldn't put a Crosman Premier heavy domed into a metal 5 gallon paint can and the Premier domed lights would only go in through one side.  I then realized it was going back (take that stinky Walmart) and then soaked the inside of the gun with spray lubricant.  Which by the way kills a gun.  That helped it diesel which was fun because it sounded like a .22 rimfire and was tearing the metal can up at long distance.  That lasted until the spray wore off and then it was a pig again.  As a compasrison my Diana 350 will put both of those pellets through both sides of the metal can at 25 yards.  On a good note the quality seemed good and the wood was nice looking and highly glossy, almost plastic like.  I might have just had a bad egg but I would stick with the 34.

Your better off going with what you can afford with a lifetime warranty. For the price of the summit you can have the lower gamo, rws or beeman. I favor the spanish made beemans, the gold series. Fit and finish seems to be better. Seems as though the crosmans are chinese made and have different stocks for the different brands, ie remington, crosman, benjamin sheridan legacy. I had a quest that didn't favor well. All of them seem to lie a tad on thier velocities but the 34 is grosely overstated, around 200 fps less. Most folks considder gamos junk. That leaves the beemans for $150-$250 in the gold series or the rws 48/52 and 350 in the $300 range without optics. Try cabelas and southwest shooters supply.
