ice trapping rats?
« on: January 18, 2007, 03:24:55 PM »
Now that we have fairly safe ice where I trap I've tried my hand at setting 110's at rat houses. Was able to get there when the ice was free of snow. Set where I found bubble trails and had some sucess. I have got some questions that you all might be able to help with. Whats the trick to finding the entrance to the house? The houses that I'm trapping are in about 2 to 3 feet of water. I've used a 4 foot stake to feel around to find the entrance with varing degree of sucess. Next question is more about rat habits. How do they make push-ups? Since freeze-up there have been changes happening iin the ice. Out of no where there are holes in the ice that weren't there the last time I was there. Are these the starts of push-ups? If so how do you  set these push-ups.

Finding house entrances can be hard ,when you can't see bubble trails. We can trap inside the house in Minnesota.
Push ups can be set up by chopping a hole in the ice and reaching under the ice and going into the push up.There will be a small amount of vegetation ,on which you can set your trap.
