need help, Rolling block parts?

Hello, I need a Remington Rolling Block cleaning rod for a 7mm Rolling Block rifle, not a carbine. I believe it to be a #5 RB...If you don't have one for sale does anyone know where I might get one?  Thanks in advance for any assistance....<><....

Thanks for the reply castaway, I have already tried there, no luck.I was thinking if I could not locate one I might try to make one out of the correct diameter brazing rod, probably easier on the bore than the original steel and easy to get and work with. But I woulkd really like to have an original to match my new used gun, an anniversary gift for my wife because she likes the way it looks on the wall AND I get to shoot it!!! I would really like to take a deer with it in Maine next year. We have the gun thanks to our fine member Marv (aka Datil)....<><....

I have heard that the early 7mm brass was a  slightly different size than what we use now and that headspacing is different so you may want to check that out before you shoot it to see to fireform the brass to fit the chamber. Just what I have read, and yes the 7mm was a Number 5 which had better stronger steel for the smokeless rounds used. Glad you have a shootable one a lot of them including mine had sewerpipe worn out bores since they were used in South America and not taken care of very well in those hot wet climates. The bore on mine was so bad I had it rebarreled to a 45/70. Rolling Blocks are neat rifles.

Thanks for the reply jh45gun. I am really hoping to keep it as is, I have read all I can on the differences on the RB 7mm headspace vs. current SAMMI specs for the 7mm and as a result have loaded up some once fired brass with 139 grain gc cast bullets sized to .285, I used 11.0 grains of PB for a start which should be a real mild load and give me about 1500 fps. If I am correct they original military loading was a much heavier bullet at just a shade above 2000 fps. I will index all cases for the first fireform and from then on those cases will be dedicated to the RB and all indexed in the chamber the same way for each shot. Some have spoken of using 30-06 as parent brass to form to the longer headspace of the older 7mm Mauser military round and I have heard of others using 8mm mauser brass for the same thing. Since I am going to be shooting less than full house loads with cast bullets out if it (I am not afflcted with the malady of "Magnumitus", o0r trying to load everyting to just below bursting). I prefer a less potent load with proper bullet placement.....<><....

Check ebaay too.  I found lots of parts for a 30-40 Krag I was rebuilding there.

Thanks rockabilly, I just missed one there about 2330 hours yesterday, I was sniped in the last few seconds, I thought I had placed enough of an overbiod on the item since I was the only bidder in the week or so it was up for bids but at the last moment a second bidder entered the picture and outbid me, oh well, stuff happens. I am hopefully getting a schematic of the proper rod and am contemplating making one out of brazing rod if the OD is something I can match. It should be an easy job and although not original  the brazing rod should be easier on the rifling than the original steel wiping rods. I still do want an original rod to make the gun complete through....<><....

Should make a nice cast shooter. Wbat Mold are you using? I have a Spanish Mauser built from parts I think I am only going to shoot cast in also though it headspaces fine.

jh45gun, I did not cast these myself, I located a partial box on the used ammo and reloading table at Kittery Trading Post for $2.00 so I brought it home, along with some other prize finds. They were cast by M&P Cast Bullet, 44 Martel Way, Brattleboro, VT 05301, phone 802-254-5296. I am not sure yet how they will shoot but they look like nicely cast bullets. I have never heard of the company and don't how old the bullets are or if the company is still in business. If these shoot well I may call them and try to order some, depending on the price of course, I am sure new they will be more than $2.00!!!. The notation on the box is:

I believe the last number may be a mold number, they wiegh out to appx 139.1 grains with the gc and lube.

I really enjoy looking through the goodies on the used ammo and reloading table, they only sell turned in factory loaded ammo, no reloaded ammo, and used reloading supplies at that table, and you never know what might appear!!! The last time I was there they had 150 pieces of new unfired (but sold as used) 45-90 brass but I had no use for it, I almost bought it anyway but I think my 45-70 will remain just as it is....Merry Christmas....<><....
