first sets

well i put out my first three sets yesterday went to check em this mornin and there was a big ol coyote track so close tips of its claws were on the edge of the pan guess i gotta work on positioning my trap a little more

 Trap placement is the key to good catches.But the visit shows your location is correct.

went and checked em again this mornin and had a coon in one of my dirthole sets out in the middle of the desert is it probable that there are other coons in the area? i dont know nothing about em i measured it from nose to the bottom of its leg (on the stretcher) and its round 34-35 inches is that good sized?? thanks

congrats, trace! a track at your set is evidence of doing everything right. sometimes they are just not interested an move on. If you can keep 'em there a bit, you up the chances of snagging one (i.e. make em dig at your bait at dirtholes, make em pee on your post sets, etc.) its that extra bit of attention they pay at your sets that causes a few extra foot steps. Remember, control their nose, and you control where their feet go.

Hey Guys:

I literally know nothing about the art of trapping.  From reading your posts and the posts of others it appears to be an interesting, challenging and exciting sport.  Good luck for the upcoming season.  Sherlock Holmes would most likely have enjoyed this endeavor during his leasure downtime.  Keep posting on your future successes, as this is truly an exciting way to enjoy the outdoors.
