.40 SW brass headstamps
« on: December 18, 2006, 12:37:28 PM »
I just picked up a 40 SW pistol and reloading supplies.  I bought a bag of range brass and found some head stamps I'm not familiar with.

Can any one tell me who makes the following and any comments on quality?

1)   *I*

2)  CBC

3)  A-MERC

4)  MFS

I have a lot of years reloading but never the 40.  I've found in the 38 / 357, 9mm, and 41 mag that different manufactures' brass can vary quite a bit and I especially note it when adjusting for crimping.

Any words of wisdom on loading the 40 would be appreciated.  I AM on the look out for the Glock and other unsupported case head effects.

Thanks and Merry Christmas to all.

Thank you Bill!   I had no idea my brass was so cosmopolitan!

I'll probably use this stuff for mild loads and stick to US brands for the heavier stuff.

No disrespect to the Glock but the unsupported case and not being able to shoot lead are 2 of the 3 big turn offs for me.

Please be careful with any load you use in the Glock, most manuals will warn you not to use there data in unsupported cases. I do reload for my friends Glocks but there mild loads and we have had no Ill effects and are on our 6x firings.

I do have a good load for a Rainer 165gr. bullet sub 2" at 25 yards off hand with 13 rounds if you want I’ll post it here for you just yell.

Best of luck Warf

A Merc is junk, most people toss any brass with that headstamp.  It is also recommended never to buy that brand of ammo, it is of consistently poor quality and has the dubious distinction of blowing up more Glocks than any other brand of ammo.

thanks for more info.

My gun is a Walther P99.  It was an impulse buy - was shopping for a .45 but this gun fits my hand very nicely and I like the controls.  Looks like I lucked out a little.  I had no idea of the Glock issue for cast or unsupported case heads.  Neither is a problem for the Walther.  Just a mushy trigger and a touchy slide stop.  Talked to Walther USA about it and just received a shipping label from them so they can look it over.

I'll toss the A-Merc.

I'm interested in all loads you can share. Especially mild to medium plinkers.

Merry Christmas all!
