Ruger #1 30-06 1-500 Commemorate, 100 years Ruger.

Just  saw one of these brand new in the store. 22" barrel with
an Alex Henry fore arm, iron sights, engraved on both sides of the receiver. A fine looking rifle at $1150Can. + tax. I am not all that keen on a 30-06. The #1 are getting quite expensive, of course this is a special issue.

I just got my rebored 6.5x284 back from the smith. The 26" barrel was also milled octagon. The milling was done with the 1/4 rib in mind, all turned out well.

The fore arm needs some rework, and accurizing. The previous owner made a real mess of the inletting.

Why are you not so keen on the 30-06?

I really don't know. It must be like women some turn you on some don't. The 30-06 is a fine caliber no doubt about it and a classic. I might still buy it if my wife let me have the money, ha.

The more ammo prices jump, and the less available it becomes, a more common caliber such as a 30.06 might be more practical.

I don't think Ruger started in 1909.  I was more like 1949 with the standard .22 auto.
Must be 60 yrs. Ruger.  I like the commemorative rifle, it's a beauty even in 30/06, love to have one.

I feel basically the same. 30-06 is a fine round but it just doesn't stir me like something in 6.5 or even a .308.

Yeah - The .30-06 commemorative #1 is the 60th Anniversary of the introduction of the first #1 rifle in 1969.

In 1999, I bought a new 50th Anniversary #1, which was in .45-70, for $900.
If/when the 50th's can even be found F/S today, they seem to trade at 150% of what I paid in 1999.

A 50% gain in an investment over 10 years............... I would expect the 60th Anniv to do almost as well, even if it is a "second time around" dance.

I think you guys got things mixed up, the .30-06 commemorative #1 is NOT the 60th Anniversary of the introduction of the first #1 rifle in 1969.

1969 to 2009 is only 40 years, And yes, Ruger started in 1949, that's 60 years, but the 30-06 commemorative # 1 is I believe commemorating 100 years of the 30-06 "Cartridge". 1906-2006.

Great cartridge in my book and will do most anything needed for hunting or target shooting, in fact it's probably Un-American not to like a 30-06, it's like the US Flag and Moms Apple Pie, good old boys just have to like that stuff.  ;D
