Hello From The Dalles Oregon
« on: November 26, 2006, 12:17:56 PM »
Hello from The Dalles Oregon.
You can call me Little Joe. Looks like a nice place to meet new friends. I am on a few other forums as well. I love to hunt and reload, and fishing every now and then. I love old Westerns and having coffee over a camp fire with friends. I have been hand loading for 35 years. I started with a Lee loader at age 14. I have a Winchester 94 30-30 Buffalo Bill Commemorative , Marlin 336C 30-30, Marlin 22 81TS, Ruger ultra lite early style safety in 308 Winchester, Weatherby Vanguard in 300 Winchester Mag, and a Ruger GP100 6 inch barrel in 357 Mag. I almost forgot my Winchester 1300 12 guage shotgun!

Yes, welcome aboard. You know anything about calling coyote's? I really stink at it but trying hard! I have most the stuff. Getting another varmit rifle soon and even gonna cave in for camo's. Got several calls, electronic caller and a como hat. What I don't have is even one called in coyote! Maybe I'm not spending enough money? I even made my own shooting stick's and painted them camo.
 Even a blind squrrel find's an acorn sometime's![/quote]

Greetings from Hood River!  Small world, Huh?  If this damned weather ever breaks, maybe we could go pop some caps.  I am fond of getting coffee'd up at Holstein's and heading up in the hills above Boyd.....end up at Pastime for a beer.
....make it count

Welcome. I wish there were most posts on this subforum.  I get bored reading about whitetail stands and which rutting scent to use.

I live near Sacramento.

Ever notice how they have Whitetail deer signs in Californy but no whitetail deer?  I usta shoot quite a bit in the Jackson area before I got telligent an moved ta Idaho.  Usta be good huntin in them Sierras before the state got so many people.  Now there's more hunters than deer in some areas.  Friend a mine accidental shot and wounded a hunter south a Sacramento a while back.  He was so hungry for a kill that he had his knife out and was talkin bout guttin the guy till we stopped him with a shovel over his head.  Now he sits and talks bout the one gotta way.

Where do you see the whitetail deer signs crow?  Maybe your being sarcastic about how the signs for deer look like whitetail racks. I hunt D5 around Bear River Reservoir and higher up 88 and also D4 along Highway 50.  There are quite a number of road hunters.  The other big problem I've found is the weather during the season is normaly too warm.  Deer have no need to move when its 60 something degrees in the day.  Combine this with how the forest has so much logging waste and crap on the ground its like walking on cornflakes unless we get weather.   Kinda depressing really.

I usta hunt higher up on 88 behind the Dept of Transportation yard.  Up about the 8,000 foot elevation.  I was born and raised in Jackson Calif.  I got inta black powder and had some shinin years huntin the East side of the Sierra's by Susanville late in the year.  Also hunted up near the Oregon border in Dec with blackpowder.  Then people heard that there was some great huntin ifn you shot black powder.  The next year, a zillion people sign up fer them hunts.  I moved to Idaho.  Then they introduced wolves in Idaho.

My dad and I put in for the Devil's Garden Muzzleloader hunt on & off since 97 or so in hopes of getting drawn but we gave up since we go out of state now.

Wow, I didn’t check my post out.  I have eight replies! Sorry for this being so late. I hope you all find this here. I love this area and love to hunt and do some fishing. Hey Don, I have only got one coyote in my life. It was the first time I went out. Got him with a 22 Hornet which I no longer have. The Hornet did a great job on him. He ran about 20 yards or so and piled up. I gave the Rifle to my best friend’s son upon graduation. Robert, I hear ya bro. This weather is crazy. I shoot whenever I can at the gravel pit just outside the far west end of The Dalles past the Texaco station. Man is that place a trash heap. I just can’t stand to see the crap that all those shooters leave behind. When the weather clears up I am going to The Dalles Rifle and Pistol club range up at Fulton’s place. That’s a much better place to shoot. I just joined the club last month. Maybe we could meet and swap hunting and fishing lies over a cup of Holstein’s coffee some time.  ;) PM me and Ill give you my number to make arrangements if you are so inclined.

Later everyone

Little Joe
