chains vs cable

I know that traditional chains are more effective, but I wanted to here from you guys about cable chains, I have never used them, and I found an outlet that I can get them reasonable.  I have a Chev 2wd silverado.
They look like they would be easier to put on and off,
1.  Are they effective?  Do they do the job?
2.  Do they last, longer than regualr chains or ?
3.  On Ice or in deep snow?

I use chains for plowing & sanding. Chains are the best for plowing. But if you want something to go on fast for just driving on icy roads, cables are nice. Just don't put alot of torque on them, they will break after awhile. Traction with cables is good on ice, but on deep snow not so good. Just don't run them on bare pavement alot & they'll last.

Chains break too.  If I remember correctly the cost to repair the fender was $900.  Chains or cables should be watched close if tere are parched of road surface showing.  They wear quick on cement ssurfaces.
