« on: December 18, 2006, 11:35:07 AM »
I received my 1/2 scale 6 pdr from Canadian cannon minus 1 barrel ! I called UPS they said they dont know where it is!!!!!! The guy on the phone said it was last scanned on the 13. He said I had to call the shipper and have him start an investagation. What A bummer!!!! This cannon was my Christmas present!   Bah humbug.

Typical happening from UPS, they either break or lose the package. .  :(

This is why I only use FedEx-Ground.  :)

I remember the day that my wife yelled "The UPS guy is out front... he doesn't look happy..."

I ran out with a smile on my face to greet him.

He was holding a small, heavy wooden crate (about 100#).

He asked "where do you want it".

I pointed on the ground in front of him and said "right there would be fine"

He put it down (with great relief) and causally asked what the 4*#^ was in it (not an exact quote, but sounded somethin like that).

I said "cannon barrel"

He said "eigh?",  like he had become hard of hearing all of a sudden.

I again said "cannon barrel".

He said "oh... ok"  (I seem to order lots of wierd stuff that keeps him amused... but this went to the top of the list I think.)

And off he rode into the sunset, having delivered his first "cannon barrel".

This summer I shipped a 100lb mortar with Dex and they lost it .It was insured and I had another mortar almost done so I didn't lose out.Shipped the next one with UPS and it made it fine. It seems that if the wrong people working in shipping find out its a cannon then its real easy to get lost.

Did it have a serial number?  If so report it to you local LE agency.
Some states consider muzzle loading firearms as "firearms" for felony theft laws..
Good luck.  I hope they replace it soon.

Hope it was insured.  UPS started requiring all firearms to be shipped via air service because too many were being stolen by employees from ground service (supposedly air is tracked better; yeah, right.)

I don't mark anything I ship with a gun related description any more.  Usually mechanical parts or something like that.

Where was the last place it was scanned in?  North of the border or south of the border?

So the underlying problem was inadequate packaging?  The barrel broke out of the crate while being slammed around?

I used to work for the post office many years ago as a temp during the CHRISTmas rush. I can't imagine UPS being any different. What sometimes happens to your stuff when moving from point A to point B would shock you. I once saw a farily large diameter driveshaft that was ordered from JC Whitney get bent U-Shaped.

Avoid ordering stuff in November/December if you can.

an added tip...Never mark anything fragile. First off, if it is fragile as wrapped you shouldn't be shipping it. Secondly, it may be taken as a challenge to find out how fragile it is.
