Another convertible question
« on: November 28, 2006, 05:42:46 PM »
I just found out about the blackhawk 45 convertible, and really like the idea.  Any idea if anyone makes (or if it's even feasible to have) a 454/45acp convertible that will shoot the 454, 45 Colt AND 45 ACP?
The problem with troubleshooting is....sometimes it shoots back!

Freedom Arms makes a model 83 like that that can also get a 45 Win Mag cylinder added. The Ruger frames are not to condusive to the 454 Casull case or at least that is what I gather because Bowen, Linebaugh and most big name smiths will not make that conversion. Besides if you want to push heavy bullets like 325gr and up the 454 does not gain on the 45 colt enough to matter because the overall lenght of the bullet from the base of the case has to be the same so the powder space is basically the same inside the case. The 45 colt just has more bullet in front of the crimp.

I think with the S&W 460 you can shoot 460, .454, & .45 Colt. But that's a lot of gun, and a whooooole lot of money.

had a 454 alaskan moon clipped it would shoot 45 scofield 45 colt and 454s with or without clips and with smith model 25 clips would shoot 45acps and the other members of that family. Not much in 45 it wouldnt shoot. Big poa differnce between 454s and 45acps though.

I have a new in the felt bag and box Ruger New model Blackhawk/old model vaquero 45 ACP cylinder I would sell or consider trades.  This should be fitted by a competent gunsmith.  It has never been fired.  Ed (wilded@austin.rr.com)
