BP substitute in traditional guns?

Just wondering if there is any SCIENTIFIC reason that I can't use triple seven in an Austin & Halleck mountain rifle.  I know, I know - blasphemy, sacrilege, the devil is holding a special place in hell for me just for penning these words.  The thing is I have a few cans of triple seven that I burn in my inlines and don't want to go out and buy more powder.  This is my first traditional gun and the manual says use black powder only.  I can't think of a reason not to use a substitute, if anyone else can please let me know.

Volume to volume the 777 is hotter than black powder.  I believe that on the Hodgen's website they recomend reducing the load by 15% to get equil performance.  Start out with a reduced load and work up and you should be fine prividing you are shooting a cap gun.  If you have a flint you may have problems with it going off consistantly.

It's a percussion gun, I will probably just use it for deer here in Illinois so hot loads won't be necessary.

The problems are related to the higher ignition temp required. It is danged near impossible to use a sub in a flinter, and with a percussion, you have to resort to magnum or musket caps to git reliable ignition. The only rifle I have that doesn't have hangfires or non fires is my underhammer. The powder thinks its been put into an inline.  :P

Would that go for GOEX Pinnacle also? I am thinking maybe not as Pinnacle is used 1:1 as you would use black powder. But I just dont know for sure.

If it will ignite in your rifle then it can be used...

Of course the meat will be tainted... ;D

Of course there is the duplex load with a 5 to 10 grain start of 2f or 3f black with the remainder in the other stuff            if ya jest hafta us it.          The taint of the meat is cause of the lack of the heat
when you go with the black, everything is so sweet.

I have some T7 that I shoot in my cap guns. But due to it's high price and the fact that it won't work in my flint guns I won't be buying any more. I will be using Geox 3f works in both guns and is much cheeper.

Finally got a chance to shoot the new gun.  777 shoots fine in it, I only shot it a couple of times.  No hangfires, now I just need to build up an accurate load,

Good luck, but you'll need a range rod with one of the pressure controllin' devices on it. 777 don't like inconsistent seatin' pressure,  >:(
